How do I hire Doggywalker.com?

If you’re interested in hiring Doggywalker.com, please complete the New Client Form. A company representative will contact you within 24 hours to answer any additional questions.

What information do you need about us and our pets?

We keep a profile on every home and pet that we visit. The profile includes important information including walk schedule, feeding schedule, your contact information, vet information, general routines, any quirks about your home or pet (we all have quirks!), and much more. That profile is then provided to any caregiver that visits your home. We ask that you inform the office as changes occur in the routine of your pet and your home so we can be sure the profile reflects them. Basically, the profile allows us to make sure we are following the routine as you would!

I need to schedule a visit for today. Can you help me?

If you are already an active client with Doggywalker.com and your keys and profile are on file, we will make every effort to honor a same-day care request. Please remember our “48-Hour Policy” and understand there will be a fee for last minute requests, as our caregivers must adjust their schedules to accommodate the visit. To ensure the best care possible and for the safety of all, we are unable to schedule last-minute requests for new clients. Please contact us at least two weeks before you would like to begin visits so we can schedule your consultation, meet you and your pet(s), and have everything ready for your visits to begin when you need them.

What is your 48-Hour Policy ?

Doggywalker.com utilizes a 48-hour scheduling and cancellation policy to make certain all our clients receive first-rate service. If you call to schedule or cancel a visit (or visits) with less than 48 hours notice, you will be charged an additional fee, as our caregivers must adjust their schedules to accommodate yours.

Why do you need two sets of keys?

Doggywalker.com keeps two sets of keys on file in case there is ever a problem. Occasionally the unplanned happens in life, and having an extra set of keys allows us to make sure your pet(s) can still be visited. One set of keys is assigned to your caregiver, and the other is safely stored “just in case.” We believe in Better Safe Than Sorry!

Are you licensed, bonded and insured? With who?

Yes, we are licensed by the city of Alexandria and by Arlington County. We maintain a physical office in each locality. Doggywalker.com is an active member of the National Association of Professional Pet Sitters. We are bonded, which means that if an employee is convicted of stealing something, the policy will pay to replace the stolen item(s). We carry normal commercial liability, with a special pet coverage. More than likely, your pet is better covered when we are here than when we aren’t!!!

How do you choose your pet caregivers?

Doggywalker.com’s goal is to ensure the safety and security of our clients, their pets and their property. Our caregivers undergo an extensive screening process before they are hired, including reference checks and background history checks. Doggywalker.com’s caregivers are carefully trained by an experienced manager. Our caregivers also receive pet first aid training from the Alexandria Animal Hospital.

Will I be assigned the same pet caregiver each time I use the service?

Our goal is for each household to have an assigned “regular” caregiver. Occasionally your caregiver may be sick, on vacation, etc. In that case a fully trained and informed substitute will be assigned to your pet(s). That’s one of the reasons we keep each pets profile on file so each caregiver can be well educated on the pets they visit. Sometimes it will be possible to meet a substitute caregiver, and sometimes it will not. Rest assured — your pet and home will be in good hands with any Doggywalker.com caregiver.

Can I hire my caregiver directly from Doggywalker.com?

Please do not place your pet caregiver in an uncomfortable position by offering them employment apart from Doggywalker.com. Our caregivers are contractually prohibited from soliciting or accepting employment directly from Doggywalker.com’s clients.

May I give my pet caregiver a gratuity?

You are welcome to give your caregiver a gratuity if you wish. You may either give it directly to your caregiver or, if you prefer, you may pay it to the company. No matter whom you pay it to, 100% of the gratuity will go directly to your designated caregiver.

Can you take my dog to my neighborhood dog park?

As a professional Pet-sitting Company offering individual one-on-one leash walks, we can not take your dog to public dog park. The reason for this is because although your dog may be well behaved at the dog park with you, we can not predict how other dogs may react to your dog and therefore can not guarantee your dog’s safety. Your dog’s well being and health is our primary concern and for this reason we do not put your dog at risk by taking it to a public dog park. If you dog enjoys off leash exercise we will happily play ball in a completely fenced yard. If you live in an apartment complex with a private fenced in dog exercise area, we will utilize this area as long as it is well fenced, your dog is responsive to being called and going on and off the leash and there are no other dogs in the exercise area at the time.
